SAHARA-SEBI STANDOFF

The Supreme Court is set to hear Sahara chief Subrata Roy’s petition on Tuesday. Sahara has raised some points over its legal battle with stock market regulator Sebi

Sahara says it has already paid 93% of the investors. Per investor average deposit is of 8,400. Hence, it can be repaid in cash as per law In last 17 months, Sebi repaid only 1 cr and is holding 5619 cr (including interest), argues Sahara .

No verification process has been started by Sebi in the last 17 months, disobeying court’s August 31, 2012 order, the company says
Sahara offered guarantee of the entire amount through bank trustee security; but when it was rejected, the company says it offered irrevocable bank guarantee. This has not been accepted .

At the heart of the matter lies Sebi’s demand, under directions of the Supreme Court, of an additional 20,000 crore along with 15% interest to investors .The company says Sebi has alleged that Sahara’s investors are fictitious and untraceable.

Sahara says that in 2008, it had repaid around 4 crore depositors under supervision of the Reserve Bank of India. The company says in response to Sebi’s assertion that many of the 20,000 letters to depositors didn’t elicit a response, Sahara had submitted affidavits and KYC
documents confirming their existence .

Sahara says it remains Sebi’s responsibility to ascertain the authenticity of its claim that it has repaid most of their money.  If Sebi continues to insist that investors do not exist, then, by the same logic, the regulating body — born out of the specific mandate of protecting investors — also ceases to have any further stake or role to play in the case, the company said in a statement .

Sahara says a proper verification process has not been implemented to ascertain the existence of its depositors — despite conclusive evidence forwarded to Sebi

in the form of original documents, repayment vouchers and receipts. Sahara says as a market regulator, Sebi does not have the power to regulate unlisted entities. Sebi is looking to sell properties belonging to third parties which have been kept as security with Sebi, even when it has no authority to effect any such sale without the consent of the titleholders of the properties.

Gurgaon- Commercial and Residential hub of NCR

The Gurgaon real estate market is growing at a steady rate be it in terms of Retail, Residential or Industrial space. Most of the absorption in Delhi NCR is likely to focus around Gurgaon and Noida, reason being the provision of much desired amenities in these areas.

Reality players like DLF, Ansal API, EMAAR MGF, Assotech Realty, Microtek Infrastructures, Supertech, Amrapali, Gaursons India Ltd, etc, are coming up with new commercial projects in the NCR. Thus, private sector is revamping NCR’s environs, bringing in the much-needed impetus to the sector. According to realty experts, the impact of the subdued economic sentiment and the rising inflation rate on the realty market, and the attractiveness of a city’s business environment, can largely be gauged by evaluating the health of commercial realty in that city.
The key factors that have fostered the rapid Realty growth as well as people’s interest to invest in residential apartments in Gurgaon include:

CLEAN AND GREEN
The increasing pollution has deteriorated NCR’s environment to a great extent but still there are regions like Gurgaon in NCR where this has been kept well in consideration which is evident through the fact that large spaces are allocated especially for parks and gardens. This enhances the beauty of this area while keeping air clean and fresh.
CONNECTIVITY
In the hustle bustle of today’s busy life, easy connectivity from home to workplace and vice versa, as well as to other places becomes a necessity. And Gurgaon offers it all, you get less traffic, wider roads and most importantly the MNCs are located in close proximity. “Impact of improving infrastructure: New and forthcoming growth corridors along Gurgaon and Noida like Yamuna Expressway, Noida Expressway, and Dwarka-Gurgaon Expressway have recorded tremendous increase in commercial and residential activities in the past few months and will continue to drive the commercial market activity.” Says Shravan Gupta, Executive Vice Chairman and Managing Director of Emaar MGF.
SOCIAL INFRASTRUCTURE
The basic necessities including educational institutes, medical facilities, and entertainment hubs are abundant in Gurgaon and moreover Realty Developers are inclined towards providing all these to attract more and more people to invest in this location.
The quality of life that is accessible in Noida and Gurgaon is quite superior. Further, the new developments like Emerald Hills by Emaar MGF which is an exclusive gated, secure, impeccably planned development in Gurgaon where all the residents' needs are within easy walking distance. Apart from this, the lavish outdoor and indoor spaces, parks, sports facilities and shopping centres complete the living experience.
Gurgaon has an abundant supply of luxury homes, which keeps the elite class interested in this area. The standard apartments feature spacious living rooms with attached balconies overlooking communal gardens and amenity building, grand entrance lobbies, high speed elevators, elegant lift lobbies and much more which catches the attention of people longing for luxurious living in NCR.
According to, Mr. Ashish Jerath, Sales Head (North), Emaar MGF, “Emaar MGF by virtue of its lineage, leverages expertise in developing unparalleled luxury housing in India. The launch of Marbella marks the commitment of Emaar MGF to continuously develop properties with modern design concepts of international standards”
The fact that Gurgaon continues to be the first stop for MNCs, speaks volumes about the sub-city. It is heartening to see authorities to be in tune with the time and planning infrastructure for new areas as per changing needs. “Real estate in Noida and Gurgaon has picked up and continues at a substantial rate because people find jobs in close proximity” says Nitin Batra, owner of Nitin Associates, a local consultant.

DU girls sick of Holi goons

Enough of the 'bura na maano, Holi hai' excuse, say DU girls, who're sick of being harrassed and pelted with balloons as early as a week before the festival.

Though Holi is often passed off as the playful festival of colours, for some girls, it's anything but that, and they are sick of the "bura na maano, Holi hai" excuse. "If a kid throws a water balloon at me and says, 'bura na maano, Holi hai', I can smile and walk off, but if some guy hits me on the head with a rotten egg when I am dressed for a presentation, am I expected to do the same?" asks Anjali from Hindu College.

Can't get out of our homes a week before holi
The girls say that stepping out of the house a week before Holi invites unnecessary trouble. And often, the only way they can protect themselves from the hooligans is by not celebrating the festival. "We know that there are all kinds of wild people playing Holi outside, so we just say inside our hostel rooms. Itni koi problem nahi hoti hai," says Maidang from Daulat Ram College. "We don't have any option but to stop hanging out outside. Most of my outstation friends just go back home or stay inside their PGs. But why should they have to do that?" adds Sakshi from Delhi College of Arts And Commerce.

Grease, rotten eggs, pee - how is this 'celebrating'?
Boycotting the outside world for a whole week before Holi is not always a feasible option. Some girls have decided to stop taking it lying down. "The things they do are disgusting. I saw a guy pissing inside a Holi balloon one day. In what sense of the word is that 'celebration'? You can't force your stupid celebration on people - not with greasy colours and definitely not with your piss," says Sahaj from Kalindi College. "A guy once threw an egg at me. It hit my back and it hit me really hard. I turned back and slapped him. My mom told me I shouldn't have, but that's not how you play Holi," says Ankita, a class 12 student.

High-on-bhang uncles on the road
Apparently, after their dose of bhang drinks and bhang kulfis, some men like to loiter around and harrass women. "We decided to watch a movie last Holi evening and two middle-aged men started following us while passing lewd comments. They were decently dressed so we were all the more shocked," recounts Akriti of Khalsa College. "These men are there every year, creating a nuisance on the roads. I wonder how they get away with it every year," says Shruti, a resident of west Delhi.

The balloon targets
Unexpected balloons and hard-to-wash-off colours are not the only issues the girls face. The balloon attackers' target aim is a problem that's harder to deal with, they say. "They deliberately throw water or the water balloons at your breasts or your hips. Had they only used their shooting skills constructively," says Bini, a PG resident in Kamla Nagar. "We can't wear summery clothes around Holi, even though it's so hot at that time. At Kamla Nagar and Hudson, you never know where a balloon will come from. If I walk with my hands clasped behind my back, they hit me in the front and vice-versa. It's hard to even locate them and you can't do anything," says Palak, an MA student.

All-girls holi?
Since the guys won't behave, some girls say that they plan to play Holi only with their female friends this year, while others say that's an impractical idea. "We are going to play Holi at a friend's place and it's going to be only girls. At least with them, you don't have to fear misconduct," says Anjumi from Hindu College.

"You can't have an all-girls Holi. We don't live in an all-girls world. There has to be a better solution to this problem. And the solution can't be banning Holi altogether," said Aashi , a student of Kirori Mal College.

Balakrishnan, who has taken the lead in organizing the event, said: "Interaction with Arvind and raising funds are important; the dinner is incidental.''
BANGALORE: The Aam Aadmi Party stoutly defended its proposed March-15 fundraiser dinner with Arvind Kejriwal, calling it the most "transparent" way of mobilizing election fundsat Ritz Carlton, a seven-star hotel here.

About 400 high net-worth individuals are expected to be at the ticketed event, each giving a minimum donation of Rs 20,000. It's the first time a political party is hosting a US-style fundraiser in India, with its share of critics.

"Around 75% of election funding now is not transparent; corruption starts there. What're doing is new. I hope others will follow us to raise money in a transparent manner,'' said V Balakrishnan, former member of the Infosys board and AAP candidate from Bangalore Central.

Balakrishnan, who has taken the lead in organizing the event, said: "Interaction with Arvind and raising funds are important; the dinner is incidental.'' AAP national executive member Prithvi Reddy said: "Be it votes, volunteers or money, we're dependent on people."

BJP spokesperson Meenakshi Lekhi on Tuesday questioned the Election Commission's objection to her party's events, NaMo tea party and Chai Pe Charcha. She said these are don't violate the code of conduct. "If EC thinks it's illegal, then AAP's fund-raiser dinner should also be banned," she said.

AAP workers protest outside Arun Jaitley's residence

NEW DELHI: BJP and Aam Aadmi Party workers on Tuesday staged protests against each other outside the residence of BJP leader Arun Jaitely.

An AAP MLA had yesterday accused BJP leader Arun Jaitely of trying to topple the Delhi government.

Madan Lal, Aam Aadmi Party MLA from Kasturba Nagar, alleged that he had been approached by BJP leaders, including BJP's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi, in an attempt to buy him off for Rs 20 crore.

Lal, addressing a press conference, said that on December 7 he received a call from an "unknown number" and the person on the other end said he would make him talk to a "big person" and mentioned Arun Jaitley's name.

"I told him to shut up and put down the phone," said Lal.

However, Lal said he has no proof to back his allegations.

Arun Jaitley had rubbished claims by AAP MLA Madan Lal that the BJP was trying to buy him off and topple the AAP government.

In a tweet, the leader of opposition in the Rajya Sabha said: "Rubbish claims by AAP. AAP's alternative politics includes a fundamental right to falsehood and lies."

"AAP's holding protests with an eye on upcoming polls," a BJP leader said.

AAP is launching a "pol khol campaign" against BJP and Congress from today.

India and China Spar for Most Polluted Capital City

Is New Delhi's air pollution worse than Beijing's?

A media kerfuffle broke out in India this week over whether New Delhi has finally surpassed Beijing as having worse air quality than the infamous Chinese capital. A report carried by the Hindustan Times, an Indian daily, claimed that New Delhi had “earned the dubious tag of being the world’s most polluted city,” he Wall Street Journal subsequently reported that the EPI used national statistics in its indexing, and even if it did compile information city by city, New Delhi does not keep reliable enough data to make a direct comparison to Beijing possible.

according to the Environmental Performance Index (EPI), a report put out by Yale and Columbia. T

(MORE: Beijing Chokes on Record Pollution, and Even the Government Admits There’s a Problem)

I’m just speaking for myself here, but as I look out this morning on a city blanketed by an indistinguishable mix of fog, dust and toxic heavy particles, I find it hard to take great comfort in any win for India in this. Parents may not be sending their kids to school in gas masks … yet, but it’s not exactly a fine day for a jog. (The New York Times’ own findings indicate the Indian capital’s fine particulate matter has, on average, been worse than Beijing in the first weeks of the year.)

Wherever New Delhi lands, the EPI did rank India’s air quality 174th out of 178 countries measured; only Pakistan, China, Nepal and Bangladesh came in lower. So one would hope Indian authorities do not interpret this as a pass. A 2012 study showed that pollution levels have been growing faster in Indian cities than in China. If it’s not a matter of now, it might simply be a matter of when.

AAP to contest election in northeast

ITANAGAR: After scripting a stunning electoral success in Delhi, the Aam Aadmi Party has set its sight on the northeast where the party intends to field maximum number of candidates.

To begin with, the party has decided to contest the coming Lok Sabha and assembly elections in Arunachal Pradesh due this year, AAP's national executive member and in-charge of northeastern states Habung Payeng said on Wednesday.

"We will make all efforts to put up maximum number of candidates in the parliamentary and assembly polls in Arunachal Pradesh, Payend told a press conference.

Payeng said that apart from Arunachal Pradesh, the AAP had already constituted state committees in Assam, Manipur, Tripura and Meghalaya. They are also in the pipeline in Sikkim, Mizoram and Nagaland.

"We will try to put up maximum candidates in the Lok Sabha election from the region," he said.

The party has constituted a small preparatory committee in Arunachal which, though temporary in nature, will launch a membership drive soon, according to Payeng.

He emphasized that all contesting candidates would have to execute an affidavit declaring that they would not avail of any luxurious government accommodation and would not use red light in their official vehicles if they were elected.

Moreover, aspiring candidates with criminal background would not be issued party tickets.

Asked what would be the strategy to contest from a Congress bastion like Arunachal, Payeng said that they would focus on several issues including demand for a strong Lokayukta and to make the RTI Act a strong tool for a clean and transparent government.

"The voters of the state are very conscious....and the AAP will be able to provide good governance as expected by the people," he said.

All the complexes built by the company are based on the philosophy of incorporating nature into modern lifestyles to create balance and harmony.

At all the Emaar MGF projects, special attention is paid to developing beautiful green areas throughout the community to enable residents to enjoy a healthy and clean environment. Aesthetically designed and immaculately manicured lawns and parks are given as much importance by Emaar MGF as running water and electricity to all housing units. The facilities are also environment friendly because most of the projects employ rainwater harvesting practices. The result is that adequate water is available at all times of the year to meet the needs of the residents and to maintain the tastefully designed green spaces.

Also, it has been ensured that all the roads within the communities are well-paved and sufficiently lit. In addition, the streets are lined with local trees and greenery to add pleasant foliage to the surroundings. In most of the houses and villas, front as well as rear lawns are provided so that each family has its own private greenspace.

The beauty of Emaar MGF properties is not limited to the natural beauty alone. In fact, the beauty of the housing design compliments the natural beauty of the environment in an immaculate way. The houses and buildings within the communities are designed according to modern sensibilities which gives a distinct and contemporary appearance to the cityscape. Extensive use of glass has been made to heighten the sense of space and openness. This also makes the project more affordable for home buyers and also suits the local climate which can go up to a high temperature. Shravan Gupta has high hopes for the future of Emaar MGF and the Indian real estate sector. With a growing population and urban migration, there are ample opportunities to raise the bar for residential communities in the region.
